Yacht Devices YDES-04N J1708 Engine Gateway with NMEA 2000 Micro Male Connector for J1587, Volvo Penta KAD/TAMD and Cummins KCM-II
The Yacht Devices YDES-04N is a marine Engine Gateway designed to connect engines equipped with a J1708 serial interface to an NMEA 2000 network. It allows supported engine operating data to be displayed on compatible chart plotters, multifunction displays and other NMEA 2000 instruments.
The gateway supports standard J1587 communication as well as proprietary engine protocols operating over J1708, including Volvo Penta KAD/TAMD applications and Cummins KCM-II systems. With factory settings, the device can automatically detect supported J1708 protocol operation in compatible installations.

J1708 Interface
J1708 is a two-wire serial communication interface operating at 9600 bit/s. The gateway converts supported data received from the J1708 interface into corresponding NMEA 2000 messages for use by compatible marine electronics.
The device is equipped with a TE Connectivity 1-350344-0 female connector at the end of the J1708 cable and is supplied with a disassembled TE Connectivity 1-350345-0 male connector with two pins for creating an engine-specific connection when required.

User-Configurable Alerts
The YDES-04N can generate NMEA 2000 engine alerts according to configured limits. Available alert settings include:
- Maximum engine RPM
- Low alternator voltage
- High coolant temperature
- High boost pressure
- Low oil pressure
MicroSD Configuration
The gateway includes a MicroSD card slot for configuration, firmware updates and diagnostic recording. Configuration is performed using a text file named YDES.TXT stored in the root directory of the card.
- Supports FAT, FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 formatted MicroSD cards
- Allows retrieval of current device configuration
- Supports firmware updates
- Supports recording of J1708 and NMEA 2000 diagnostic data
- Supports custom J1708 PID requests
Installation
The YDES-04N can be connected directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone without a drop cable. Because this version uses an NMEA 2000 Micro Male connector, a compatible drop cable may also be used when required.
The device is powered from the NMEA 2000 network. A dry mounting location is required, and all electrical connections should be made with power switched off.
