Yacht Devices YDNB-07N NMEA 2000 Bridge with Dual Micro Male Connectors, CAN Filtering and Network Expansion
The Yacht Devices YDNB-07N is a programmable NMEA 2000 and CAN bridge designed to connect two separate physical networks and make them operate as one logical network. It can forward, filter, modify and route CAN and NMEA 2000 messages between its CAN1 and CAN2 interfaces.
The device can be used to overcome physical NMEA 2000 network limitations, isolate specific devices or messages, correct transmitted data, improve compatibility between equipment of different generations and create custom gateways between NMEA 2000 and other CAN-based systems.
Main Features
- Connects two physical NMEA 2000 or CAN networks
- Creates a single logical network with controlled message forwarding
- Dual NMEA 2000 Micro Male connectors on YDNB-07N model
- Programmable filtering and routing of CAN messages
- Supports modification and generation of NMEA 2000 messages
- Supports both 11-bit CAN A and 29-bit CAN B frames
- CAN1 fixed at 250 kbps
- CAN2 configurable from 50 to 1000 kbps
- 2500 VRMS galvanic isolation between CAN1 and CAN2
- MicroSD card slot for configuration, logging and firmware updates
- Supports custom programs and encrypted program distribution
NMEA 2000 Network Expansion
The bridge can be used to overcome standard physical NMEA 2000 network limits. The manufacturer specifies network length limits of 100 m for regular cable and 250 m for heavy or mid-type cable, with a maximum of 50 physical devices on one network segment.
By dividing a large installation into separate physical segments and interconnecting them with bridges, a network with an address capacity of 252 can be expanded to around 250 physical devices.
Filtering and Device Isolation
The YDNB-07N can selectively block all messages or only specified messages from a particular device or subnet. This allows devices to be isolated from one another while still keeping required traffic available between network segments.
- Message filtering by CAN identifier
- Filtering by source device
- Filtering by PGN
- Independent forwarding rules for CAN1 to CAN2 and CAN2 to CAN1
- Up to 7 configurable hardware filters per interface
- Up to 20 software match filters in the device program
Data Processing and Compatibility
The bridge can modify NMEA 2000 data before forwarding it. This can be used to correct sensor offsets, remove invalid values or convert data from one message format into another.
- Correct transducer offsets
- Remove or replace invalid data fields
- Create additional NMEA 2000 messages from existing network data
- Improve compatibility between older and newer marine electronics
- Create custom gateways between NMEA 2000 and other CAN-based systems

CAN Interface Speeds
Interface Supported Speed CAN1 250 kbps fixed CAN2 50 / 125 / 250 / 500 / 1000 kbps
The configurable CAN2 speed allows the bridge to interface with CAN networks that operate at different baud rates, while CAN1 remains dedicated to standard NMEA 2000 operation at 250 kbps.
MicroSD Configuration
The YDNB-07N includes a MicroSD card slot for loading device programs, saving current configuration, recording diagnostics and updating firmware.
- Supports MicroSD cards of all capacities and classes
- Supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT and FAT32 file systems
- Configuration file name: YDNB.CFG
- Current program can be saved as YDNBSAVE.CFG
- Program errors can be written to YDNBERR.TXT
- Firmware updates are performed from MicroSD
Programming Functions
The bridge uses a dedicated scripting language for defining filtering, message processing and forwarding rules. Programs can contain settings, filters, built-in functions, one user-defined function and comments.
- Up to 20 software filters
- Up to 7 custom hardware filters per CAN interface
- Three internal message storage slots
- Supports integer and floating-point calculations
- Supports conditional statements and loops
- Supports periodic heartbeat functions
- Supports custom message generation and modification
- Supports real-time program parameters
Message Forwarding Performance
For messages that do not match any filter, the manufacturer specifies a delay between reception and retransmission of within 100 microseconds, even when the maximum number of 20 filters is configured.
The device provides software queues for 100 incoming and 100 outgoing messages, with a maximum message lifetime in the queue of 50 milliseconds.
Diagnostic Logging
The bridge can record raw CAN traffic and program debug information to a MicroSD card for troubleshooting and development.
- TEXT log format
- BINARY CAN log format
- Records CAN1 and CAN2 traffic
- Supports runtime variable logging
- Binary logs can be opened with Yacht Devices CAN Log Viewer
- CAN Log Viewer is available for Microsoft Windows, Linux and macOS
Installation Notes
- Never connect both bridge connectors to the same NMEA 2000 or CAN network
- Each NMEA 2000 segment requires its own correct termination
- Both physical network segments must be powered when the device is used as a bridge
- The bridge microcontroller is powered from the CAN1 interface
- CAN2 may remain disconnected for applications that use only CAN1 processing
- Install the device in a dry location
- Switch off network power before connecting the device
