Yacht Devices YDNU-02NM NMEA 2000 USB Gateway with Micro Male Connector and USB-A Male, 0183 / N2K / RAW / AUTO Modes
The Yacht Devices YDNU-02NM is a bidirectional USB gateway designed to connect a NMEA 2000 marine network with a PC, laptop or tablet running Microsoft Windows, macOS or Linux. It allows compatible marine applications to receive NMEA 2000 data and can also transmit supported information from the computer back to the vessel network.
The YDNU-02NM version combines an NMEA 2000 Micro Male connector with a USB Type A Male connector. The male USB connector is intended for direct connection to a PC USB port and must be used in a dry indoor location, as this version is not waterproof.
Main Features
- Bidirectional communication between NMEA 2000 and USB
- NMEA 2000 Micro Male connector
- USB Type A Male connector
- Designed for direct connection to a PC USB port
- Intended for dry indoor installation
- Supports USB 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0
- Operates as a virtual COM port
- Supports Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux
- 0183, N2K, RAW and AUTO operating modes
- Supports AIS data
- Supports bidirectional NMEA 2000 message transfer

Supported Operating Modes
Mode Function 0183 Bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 RAW Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the vessel network and PC in readable text format N2K Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the vessel network and PC in binary format AUTO Automatically selects the appropriate operating mode for the connected PC application
AUTO is the factory operating mode and automatically selects 0183, RAW or N2K according to the connected software.
0183 Mode
In 0183 mode, the gateway performs bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and the text-based NMEA 0183 protocol. Conversion covers significant marine data, including AIS information.
NMEA 0183 applications can also use $PCDIN and $MXPGN sentences to transfer raw NMEA 2000 messages, providing access to additional information including engine data, tank levels, battery data and compatible digital switching functions.
RAW Mode
RAW mode transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in readable text form. This mode can be used for network diagnostics and custom marine software applications.
N2K Mode
N2K mode transfers all NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in binary form. The protocol is similar to Garmin Serial Protocol and is partially compatible with ActiSense NGT protocol.

USB Connector and Installation
Models with the M suffix, including the YDNU-02NM, use a USB Type A Male connector with gold-plated contacts. This connector is intended for direct insertion into a PC USB port.
The YDNU-02NM USB connector is not waterproof and must be installed and operated in a dry location inside the cabin.
PC Compatibility
At the software level, the gateway operates as a Virtual COM Port using USB device class 2, subclass 2.
- Microsoft Windows
- macOS
- Linux
Windows 10, macOS and Linux use system drivers and do not require a dedicated driver for the gateway. Older Microsoft Windows versions require installation of a driver configuration file that links the device to the standard Windows USB serial driver.
Marine Data Access
Depending on the information available on the connected NMEA 2000 network and the capabilities of the PC software, the gateway can provide access to:
- Vessel course
- Vessel speed
- Position
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
- Water depth
- AIS messages from vessels and aircraft
- Engine data
- Tank data
- Battery data
Bidirectional Operation
The YDNU-02NM can transmit messages from PC applications to the NMEA 2000 network as well as receive NMEA 2000 data. This allows compatible applications to exchange data with chart plotters and other onboard equipment.
A Silent Mode is available for applications where only network monitoring is required. When enabled, the gateway prevents PC applications from transmitting messages to the NMEA 2000 network while continuing to receive network data.
Message Filtering
The gateway includes configurable filters for controlling which messages pass between the NMEA 2000 network and the connected PC application.
- Global incoming NMEA 2000 filter
- Global outgoing NMEA 2000 filter
- RAW mode receive and transmit filters
- N2K mode receive and transmit filters
- NMEA 0183 receive and transmit filters
- WHITE and BLACK filter modes
- Filtering by NMEA 2000 PGN
- Filtering by source address
- Filtering by NMEA 0183 sentence formatter
Autopilot Support
The gateway includes settings for controlling compatible Raymarine SeaTalk NG autopilots from NMEA 0183 applications when this function is enabled.
Diagnostics
The YDNU-02NM can record data traffic from the NMEA 2000 and USB interfaces for diagnostic purposes. Diagnostic information is stored in an internal 1 MB EEPROM buffer.
- NMEA 2000 receive traffic
- NMEA 2000 transmit traffic
- USB receive traffic
- USB transmit traffic
- Current device settings
Typical diagnostic recording capacity is approximately 2 to 10 minutes depending on network traffic.
NMEA 2000 Installation
The gateway can be connected directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone without a drop cable. The device itself is powered from the USB port, while the NMEA 2000 network supplies power only to the isolated network transceiver section.
- Direct backbone connection supported
- Switch off NMEA 2000 bus power before connection
- Main device power supplied from USB
- NMEA 2000 network powers the isolated transceiver section
Package Contents
