Yacht Devices YDNU-02RF NMEA 2000 USB Gateway with SeaTalk NG Connector and IP67 USB-A Female, 0183 / N2K / RAW / AUTO Modes
The Yacht Devices YDNU-02RF is a bidirectional USB gateway designed to connect a NMEA 2000 marine network with a PC, laptop or tablet running Microsoft Windows, macOS or Linux. It allows compatible marine applications to receive vessel network data and can also transmit supported messages from the computer back to the NMEA 2000 network.
The YDNU-02RF version combines a Raymarine SeaTalk NG-compatible NMEA 2000 connector with an IP67-rated USB Type A Female connector. The female USB connector includes a protective cap and 1/2-inch bayonet locking mechanism and can be mounted through a bulkhead for installations where an externally accessible USB connection is required.

Supported Operating Modes
Mode Function 0183 Bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 RAW Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in readable text format N2K Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in binary form AUTO Automatically selects the appropriate operating mode for the connected PC application
AUTO is the factory operating mode and automatically selects 0183, RAW or N2K according to the connected PC application.
0183 Mode
In 0183 mode, the gateway performs bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and the text-based NMEA 0183 protocol. Conversion covers significant marine data, including AIS information.
NMEA 0183 applications can also use $PCDIN and $MXPGN sentences to transfer raw NMEA 2000 messages, providing access to additional information including engine data, tank levels, battery data and compatible digital switching functions.
RAW Mode
RAW mode transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in a readable text format. This mode is suitable for network diagnostics and custom applications.
N2K Mode
N2K mode transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the vessel network and PC in binary form. The protocol is similar to Garmin Serial Protocol and is partially compatible with the ActiSense NGT protocol.

USB Connector Construction
The YDNU-02RF uses a high-quality USB Type A Female connector with gold-plated contacts. The connector is equipped with a protective cap and 1/2-inch bayonet locking mechanism.
When used with a compatible Yacht Devices YU-USB cable, the USB connection provides IP67 protection. The connector is also compatible with general USB Type A cables, although the specified waterproof connection requires the appropriate compatible cable.
Bulkhead Installation
The USB connector of the YDNU-02RF can be mounted outside through a bulkhead. For bulkheads up to 7 mm thick, a 25 mm diameter mounting hole is required. For thicker bulkheads, a groove with a minimum diameter of 33 mm is required.

PC Compatibility
At the software level, the YDNU-02RF operates as a Virtual COM Port using USB device class 2, subclass 2.
- Microsoft Windows
- macOS
- Linux
Windows 10, macOS and Linux use system drivers and do not require a dedicated driver for the gateway. Older Microsoft Windows versions require driver installation.
Marine Data Access
Depending on the information available on the connected NMEA 2000 network and the capabilities of the PC application, the gateway can provide access to:
- Vessel course
- Vessel speed
- Position
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
- Water depth
- AIS messages from vessels and aircraft
- Engine data
- Tank data
- Battery data
Bidirectional Operation
The YDNU-02RF can transmit messages from PC applications to the NMEA 2000 network as well as receive NMEA 2000 data. This allows compatible applications to exchange information with chart plotters and other onboard equipment.
A Silent Mode is available when only network monitoring is required. When enabled, messages from PC applications are prevented from being transmitted to the NMEA 2000 network while network data can still be received by the PC.
Message Filtering
The gateway includes configurable filters for controlling data transferred between the NMEA 2000 network and the connected PC application.
- Global incoming NMEA 2000 filter
- Global outgoing NMEA 2000 filter
- RAW mode receive and transmit filters
- N2K mode receive and transmit filters
- NMEA 0183 receive and transmit filters
- WHITE and BLACK filter modes
- Filtering by NMEA 2000 PGN
- Filtering by NMEA 2000 source address
- Filtering by NMEA 0183 sentence formatter
Autopilot Support
The gateway includes dedicated settings for controlling compatible Raymarine SeaTalk NG autopilots from NMEA 0183 applications when this function is enabled.
Diagnostics
The YDNU-02RF can record traffic on the NMEA 2000 and USB interfaces for diagnostic purposes. Diagnostic data is stored in an internal 1 MB EEPROM buffer.
- NMEA 2000 receive traffic
- NMEA 2000 transmit traffic
- USB receive traffic
- USB transmit traffic
- Current device settings
Typical recording capacity is approximately 2 to 10 minutes depending on network traffic.
NMEA 2000 Installation
The gateway can be connected directly to the NMEA 2000 / SeaTalk NG backbone without a drop cable. The device itself is powered from the USB port, while the NMEA 2000 network supplies power only to the isolated network transceiver section.
- Direct backbone connection supported
- Switch off NMEA 2000 bus power before connection
- Main device power supplied from USB
- NMEA 2000 network powers the isolated transceiver section
Package Contents
