Yacht Devices YDNU-02NF NMEA 2000 USB Gateway with Micro Male Connector and IP67 USB-A Female, 0183 / N2K / RAW / AUTO Modes
The Yacht Devices YDNU-02NF is a bidirectional USB gateway designed to connect a NMEA 2000 marine network with a PC, laptop or tablet running Microsoft Windows, macOS or Linux. It allows compatible applications to receive vessel navigation and network data and can also transmit supported data from a computer back to the NMEA 2000 network.
The YDNU-02NF version combines an NMEA 2000 Micro Male network connector with an IP67-rated USB Type A Female connector fitted with a protective cap and 1/2-inch bayonet locking mechanism. The waterproof USB connection makes this version suitable for installations where the USB connector needs to be mounted outside or through a bulkhead.

Supported Operating Modes
Mode Function 0183 Bidirectional conversion between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 RAW Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in readable text format N2K Transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the network and PC in binary format AUTO Automatically selects the appropriate mode according to the connected PC application
AUTO is the factory operating mode and automatically determines whether the connected application requires 0183, RAW or N2K communication.
0183 Mode
In 0183 mode, the gateway performs bidirectional conversion between the binary NMEA 2000 protocol and the text-based NMEA 0183 protocol. The conversion covers significant marine data, including AIS information.
NMEA 0183 applications can also use $PCDIN and $MXPGN sentences to transfer raw NMEA 2000 messages, providing access to additional information such as engine data, tank levels, battery information and compatible digital switching functions.
RAW Mode
RAW mode transfers NMEA 2000 messages to and from the PC in a readable text format. This mode is intended for network diagnostics, development of custom applications and compatible marine software.
N2K Mode
N2K mode transfers NMEA 2000 messages between the vessel network and the PC in binary form. The protocol is similar to the Garmin Serial Protocol and is partially compatible with the ActiSense NGT protocol.

USB Connector Construction
The YDNU-02NF uses a high-quality USB Type A Female connector with gold-plated contacts. The connector includes a protective cap and a 1/2-inch bayonet locking mechanism.
When used with a compatible Yacht Devices YU-USB cable, the USB connection provides IP67 protection. General USB Type A cables can also be connected, but the specified waterproof connection requires the appropriate compatible cable.
Bulkhead Installation
The IP67 USB connector can be mounted through a bulkhead. For bulkheads up to 7 mm thick, a 25 mm diameter hole is required. For thicker bulkheads, a groove with a minimum diameter of 33 mm is required.

PC Compatibility
At the software level, the YDNU-02NF operates as a Virtual COM Port using USB device class 2, subclass 2.
- Microsoft Windows
- macOS
- Linux
Windows 10, macOS and Linux use system drivers and do not require a special device driver. Older Microsoft Windows versions require a driver configuration using the standard Windows USB serial driver.
Marine Data Access
Depending on the data available on the connected NMEA 2000 network and the capabilities of the PC application, the gateway can provide access to information including:
- Vessel course
- Vessel speed
- Position
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
- Water depth
- AIS messages from vessels and aircraft
- Engine data
- Tank data
- Battery data
Bidirectional Operation
The gateway can send messages from PC applications to the NMEA 2000 network as well as receive network data. This allows compatible applications to provide data to chart plotters and other equipment or to interact with supported onboard systems.
A Silent Mode is available when only monitoring is required. When enabled, messages from PC applications are prevented from being transmitted to the NMEA 2000 network, while network data can still be received by the PC.
Message Filtering
The YDNU-02 provides configurable filtering for messages transferred between the PC and NMEA 2000 network. Separate filters are available for incoming and outgoing data and for individual operating modes.
- Global incoming NMEA 2000 filter
- Global outgoing NMEA 2000 filter
- RAW mode receive and transmit filters
- N2K mode receive and transmit filters
- NMEA 0183 receive and transmit filters
- WHITE and BLACK filter types
- Filtering by NMEA 2000 PGN
- Filtering by NMEA 2000 source address
- Filtering by NMEA 0183 sentence formatter
Autopilot Support
The gateway includes dedicated settings for controlling compatible Raymarine SeaTalk NG autopilots from NMEA 0183 applications. This functionality can be enabled through the device settings when required.
Diagnostics
The YDNU-02NF can record traffic on both the NMEA 2000 and USB interfaces for diagnostic purposes. Recorded data is stored in an internal 1 MB EEPROM buffer.
- Records NMEA 2000 receive traffic
- Records NMEA 2000 transmit traffic
- Records USB receive traffic
- Records USB transmit traffic
- Stores current settings with the diagnostic record
Typical diagnostic recording capacity is approximately 2 to 10 minutes depending on network traffic.
NMEA 2000 Installation
The YDNU-02NF can be connected directly to the NMEA 2000 backbone without a drop cable. The gateway itself is powered from the USB port, while power from the NMEA 2000 network is used only for the isolated part of the network transceiver.
- Direct NMEA 2000 backbone connection supported
- Switch off NMEA 2000 bus power before connection
- Device powered from USB
- NMEA 2000 network supplies the isolated transceiver section
