Supported Vessel Data
Depending on the equipment installed on the NMEA 2000 network, the gateway can provide compatible applications with marine data including:
- Vessel course
- Vessel speed
- Position
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
- Water depth
- AIS messages from vessels and aircraft
- Engine data
- Tank data
- Battery data
- Other navigation and NMEA 2000 information available on the network
Wi-Fi Operating Modes
Mode Function Access Point The gateway creates its own Wi-Fi network for direct connection of smartphones, tablets and computers Client The gateway connects to an existing onboard Wi-Fi network
In Access Point mode, up to three Wi-Fi clients can be connected simultaneously. In Client mode, coverage depends on the existing onboard Wi-Fi infrastructure.
TCP and UDP Connectivity
The gateway supports both TCP and UDP communication. Up to three NMEA data servers can be configured with different network protocols, data formats and communication directions.
- Up to 3 configurable data servers
- Up to 3 TCP connections per server
- Up to 9 TCP application connections in total
- Unlimited UDP clients
- Bidirectional, transmit-only or receive-only server operation
- NMEA 0183 and RAW data protocols
NMEA 0183 Conversion
The YDWG-02R includes a bidirectional converter between NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. Compatible NMEA 0183 software can therefore receive data from the NMEA 2000 network and, when bidirectional operation is enabled, transmit supported information back to the marine network.
NMEA 0183 applications can also use $PCDIN and $MXPGN sentences to exchange raw NMEA 2000 messages, including extended engine, tank, battery and digital switching data.
RAW Protocol
RAW protocol provides direct transfer of NMEA 2000 messages between the vessel network and compatible applications.
- Bidirectional raw NMEA 2000 message transfer
- Supports proprietary NMEA 2000 messages
- Compatible with Expedition 10
- Compatible with CAN Log Viewer
- Suitable for diagnostics and software development
NMEA Message Filtering
The gateway includes configurable filters for controlling which NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 messages are transferred between the vessel network and connected applications.
- NMEA 0183 filtering by sentence formatter
- NMEA 2000 filtering by PGN
- NMEA 2000 filtering by source address
- NMEA 2000 filtering by 29-bit message identifier and mask
- WHITE and BLACK filter modes
- Separate incoming and outgoing filters
- Global NMEA 2000 filters
Web Gauges
The built-in Web Gauges interface provides real-time vessel data through a standard web browser on a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Local use does not require an internet connection or installation of a dedicated application.
- Four customizable data pages
- Course and speed
- Apparent wind
- True wind
- Engine RPM
- Engine temperature
- Fuel rate
- Position and time
- Log data
- Sea and air temperature
- Atmospheric pressure
- Water depth
Autopilot Support
The gateway can be configured to support control of compatible NMEA 2000 and Raymarine SeaTalk NG autopilots from NMEA 0183 navigation applications.
Supported navigation data for autopilot control includes destination waypoint position, course to waypoint and cross-track error supplied by compatible NMEA 0183 sentences.
Wireless NMEA 2000 Extender
Two compatible Wi-Fi Gateways can be configured as a wireless extender to join two or more physical NMEA 2000 networks. Both devices use UDP communication with the same configured port number.
Diagnostics
The YDWG-02R provides diagnostic output for troubleshooting software and network communication. Diagnostic information can include sent and received NMEA 2000 messages together with data exchanged through the configured NMEA server.
- Real-time diagnostic data output
- NMEA 2000 receive and transmit monitoring
- NMEA server traffic monitoring
- Diagnostic access through web browser or terminal software
Firmware Updates
Firmware updates are performed through the gateway's built-in administration website over Wi-Fi. The installed firmware version can also be checked through the web interface or compatible NMEA 2000 equipment.
Installation
The YDWG-02R connects directly to the SeaTalk NG / NMEA 2000 backbone without a drop cable. It should be installed in a dry location and positioned away from metal bulkheads and other conductive structures that may reduce Wi-Fi signal strength.
- Direct backbone connection supported
- Switch off NMEA 2000 bus power before connection
- Install in a dry location
- Avoid installation behind metal bulkheads
- Plastic and wood have minimal effect on Wi-Fi signal strength
