The Tides Marine seriesOne™ stern tube shaft seal is designed for smaller, single-engine vessels with stainless steel propeller shafts, covering shaft diameters from 7/8″ to 1 1/4″ (in 1/8″ steps) and metric shafts from 25 mm to 30 mm. The lip seal is not replaceable—when worn, the entire housing must be replaced. Each kit includes an application-specific articulating hose (single or multi-convolution option) and four 316 stainless steel hose clamps, and requires a pressurized water supply with 1 gallon per minute at idle.

Tides Marine seriesOne™ Stern Tube Shaft Seals – Complete Kits for 22/25/30 mm Shafts (Multiple Stern Tube OD Options)
The Tides Marine seriesOne™ shaft seal was designed for smaller, single-engine vessels using stainless steel propeller shafts. It fits shaft diameters from 7/8” through 1 1/4” in 1/8” increments and can also be used on metric stainless shafts from 25 mm through 30 mm. The seriesOne shaft seal is covered by a one year warranty. For twin-engine applications, Tides Marine suggests using Tides SureSeal™.
Key Design Notes
- Housing: Front cap design is modified for seriesOne; the lip seal is NOT replaceable.
- Service: When the lip seal is worn to the point of leaking, the entire shaft seal housing must be replaced.
- Bearing: Machined from PTFE to precise tolerances.
Hose Options (Included in Complete Kits)
- Single convolution articulating hose: Recommended for shorter shafts (~3’), higher RPM (3500+), and more rigid engine mounts.
- Multi-convolution articulating hose: Recommended for smaller diesel engines (1–3 cylinders) with softer mounts; added flexibility compensates for increased lateral movement.

How to Select the Correct seriesOne
- Measure propeller shaft OD (A) and record the shaft size.
- Measure stern tube OD (B) and record the tube size.
- Match shaft OD and tube OD with the corresponding kit part number (Metric table below).
- Confirm there is at least the minimum distance (C) of clean, smooth shaft between the coupling and stern tube.

Installation Notes (Brief)
- Remove shaft from coupling and remove the existing shaft sealing system.
- Discard old hose and clamps; do not re-use them.
- Position the assembly so the lip seal rides on a clean, smooth shaft surface; remove pitting/nicks and clean thoroughly.
- Use 280–320 grit wet/dry sandpaper or emery cloth around the shaft; avoid over-polishing.
- Install the red seal protector before sliding the assembly onto the shaft.
- Install the hose onto the stern tube and the seriesOne housing; tighten all four hose clamps evenly.
- Connect to a pressurized water supply source in the engine raw-water cooling system.
Water Supply Requirement
- Check water supply to seriesOne before operating vessel: 1 gallon per minute at idle.
- Never use grease of any kind.
