Sensor Wiring
Wire Color Function Red Vref / analog gauge reference voltage Blue Sensor + Black Sensor - / Ground
Standalone Resistive Sensor Connection
For standalone installation with a resistive fluid level sensor, the Blue wire is connected to the sensor Signal or + output and the Black wire is connected to Ground or -. The Red wire remains unconnected and should be insulated.
The CONNECTION setting is configured as RESISTIVE for this installation method.
Volvo Penta MDI Integration
The YDTA-01N can be connected in parallel with the fuel level input of a Volvo Penta MDI Mechanical Diesel Interface unit.
- Blue wire to MDI pin 11 or sensor Green wire
- Black wire to MDI pin 12 or sensor Green / Black wire
- Red wire remains unconnected
- CONNECTION setting: MDI
Analog Gauge Integration
The adapter can operate in parallel with existing analog fluid level gauges. Both single-coil and dual-coil gauges are supported, including combined gauges with a button used to select the measured value.
- 1COIL mode for single-coil gauges
- 2COIL mode for compatible dual-coil gauges
- 2COIL_VCC mode for dual-coil gauges with switched power
- Analog gauge coil resistance range up to 10,000 Ohm
Voltage-Output Sensor Connection
The YDTA-01N supports fluid level sensors producing an analog voltage signal from 0 to 16 V. The Blue wire is connected to the sensor voltage output and the Black wire to sensor ground.
If the sensor provides a separate reference voltage output, it can be connected to the Red wire to improve measurement accuracy. Otherwise, the Red wire remains unconnected.
Tank Calibration
The Tank Adapter provides 12 calibration points to compensate for irregular tank geometry or non-linear sensor output. Calibration points correspond to measured levels at 4, 8, 12, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 95 percent.
- 12 tank-shape calibration points
- Supports resistive and voltage-output sensor calibration
- Calibration can compensate for non-linear sensor response
- 0% and 100% values are used as the end points
Sensor Wire Resistance Compensation
Long sensor wires can introduce additional resistance and cause persistent measurement error. The adapter provides an OHMS_WIRES setting for compensation of parasitic wiring resistance.
If the total sensor wire length exceeds 5 meters, the manufacturer recommends measuring the wire resistance with an ohmmeter or multimeter and entering the measured value into the device configuration.
Tank Capacity Configuration
Tank capacity can be configured from 0 to 99,999 liters. A value of 0 or UNKNOWN disables tank capacity transmission to the NMEA 2000 network.
Parameter Range Tank number / instance 0–15 Tank capacity 0–99,999 L
Pressure Sensor Mode
The YDTA-01N can be configured to operate as a pressure sensor adapter instead of a fluid level adapter. In this mode, the device transmits pressure data using NMEA 2000 PGN 130314 Actual Pressure.
Available pressure types include:
- Atmospheric Pressure
- Water Pressure
- Steam Pressure
- Compressed Air Pressure
- Hydraulic Pressure
- Filter Pressure
- Altimeter Setting
- Oil Pressure
- Fuel Pressure
Damping
Fluid level readings can fluctuate in rough sea conditions. The YDTA-01N provides a configurable damping time constant to reduce sensitivity to vessel movement.
Parameter Specification Damping time constant 1–1200 seconds Factory setting 3 seconds
NMEA 2000 Digital Switching
The adapter can control compatible NMEA 2000 digital switching equipment according to measured tank level or sensor status.
- Up to 4 configurable switching rules
- Switch channels ON or OFF according to fluid level
- Supports delayed switching conditions
- Can react to sensor error status
- Can react when normal sensor operation is restored
MicroSD Configuration
The YDTA-01N includes a MicroSD card slot for configuration, firmware updates, diagnostics and tank-level logging. No dedicated configuration software is required when using the MicroSD method.
- Supports MicroSD cards of all sizes and classes
- Supports FAT12, FAT16, MS-DOS FAT and FAT32
- Does not support exFAT or NTFS
- Configuration file: YDTA.TXT
- Current configuration file: YDTASAVE.TXT
Data Logging
Measured tank level values can be recorded to a MicroSD card at configurable intervals from 1 to 60 minutes. Logging is disabled by default.
- Tank level percentage logging
- Tank volume logging when capacity is configured
- Pressure logging when pressure sensor mode is enabled
- Logging automatically resumes when a MicroSD card is inserted
NMEA 2000 Installation
