Tecnoseal Variprop / Variprofile DF-80, DF-107, DF-112 & DF-128/140 Propeller Nut Anodes
The Tecnoseal Variprop / Variprofile Propeller Nut Anodes are sacrificial corrosion protection components designed for compatible Variprop and Variprofile propeller assemblies. Available in zinc, aluminium and magnesium, the range includes replacement anodes for four propeller configurations: DF-80, DF-107, DF-112 and DF-128/140.
These anodes feature a rounded, tapered outer body with a recessed circular mounting section and three fastening positions. Their design allows installation on the corresponding propeller assembly, where the sacrificial metal helps protect electrically connected underwater metallic components against galvanic corrosion.
The four models differ in outside diameter, height, mounting dimensions and compatible propeller size. The smallest DF-80 version measures 67 mm in outside diameter and 38 mm in height, while the largest DF-128/140 version measures 105 mm in diameter and 56 mm in height. Each size is available in three sacrificial materials, allowing selection according to the vessel's operating water conditions and corrosion protection requirements.

Variprop and Variprofile Compatibility
The Tecnoseal range covers four propeller configurations with different dimensions and propeller size ranges:
- DF-80 – 12–17 inch propellers: The smallest version, with an outside diameter of 67 mm, height of 38 mm, and mounting dimensions Ø1 = 6 mm, Ø2 = 44 mm and Ø3 = 59 mm.
- DF-107 – 15–20 inch propellers: Features an outside diameter of 78 mm, height of 43 mm, and mounting dimensions Ø1 = 6 mm, Ø2 = 51 mm and Ø3 = 68 mm.
- DF-112 – 20–25 inch propellers: Features an outside diameter of 90 mm, height of 55 mm, and mounting dimensions Ø1 = 6 mm, Ø2 = 60 mm and Ø3 = 84 mm.
- DF-128/140 – 24–32 inch propellers: The largest configuration in this range, with an outside diameter of 105 mm, height of 56 mm, and mounting dimensions Ø1 = 7 mm, Ø2 = 72 mm and Ø3 = 95 mm.
The indicated propeller size ranges refer to compatible propeller diameters in inches. They should not be interpreted as propeller shaft diameters or the outside dimensions of the anodes.
Before ordering, verify the DF model designation and compare the original anode's mounting dimensions with the manufacturer's technical drawing.
Design and Mounting Configuration
These Tecnoseal anodes feature a rounded conical body with a circular mounting base. The manufacturer's illustrations show three fastening positions arranged around the lower section of the anode and a recessed central mounting cavity.
The outer diameter (Ø) and overall height (h) determine the external size of each version, while the Ø1, Ø2 and Ø3 dimensions identify the corresponding features shown in the technical drawing.
The zinc, aluminium and magnesium versions within each DF model share the same nominal dimensions and mounting geometry. Their principal differences are the sacrificial material and weight.
Because the four DF models have different dimensions, they should not be considered interchangeable solely on the basis of propeller type or material.
Zinc, Aluminium and Magnesium Anodes
The Variprop / Variprofile range is available in three sacrificial materials. Each is intended to provide galvanic corrosion protection when correctly installed with suitable electrical contact to the metallic parts requiring protection.
- Zinc: Commonly used for sacrificial corrosion protection in saltwater environments.
- Aluminium: Used in suitable saltwater and brackish-water corrosion protection applications, depending on the electrical protection system and manufacturer recommendations.
- Magnesium: Generally selected for freshwater corrosion protection applications.
The correct material should be selected according to the operating water conditions, existing corrosion protection arrangement and propeller manufacturer's recommendations.
Inspection and Replacement
Inspect the propeller anode during routine maintenance and replace it when the sacrificial material has become significantly depleted, damaged or no longer securely attached.
Before fitting a replacement, identify the DF propeller model, check the mounting geometry and inspect the contact surfaces. Ensure appropriate electrical continuity between the anode and the metallic component requiring protection.
For accurate replacement selection, compare the existing anode's outside diameter, height and mounting dimensions rather than relying only on the propeller diameter range.
