Tecnoseal 00516H / 00518H Zinc Hinged Shaft Anodes for Ø57.1–63.5 mm Shafts
The Tecnoseal 00516H and 00518H are zinc hinged shaft anodes designed to provide sacrificial galvanic corrosion protection for marine propeller shafts and electrically connected underwater metallic components. These anodes feature a two-piece hinged construction that allows the body to open for positioning around the propeller shaft during installation.
Unlike conventional solid shaft anodes, the hinged design uses a single securing screw arrangement. The manufacturer specifies that the bolt and nut are included, providing the fastening hardware for securing the anode around the shaft.
Both versions share the same external dimensions, measuring 112 mm (4.41 in) in outside diameter and 105 mm (4.13 in) in height. The difference is the internal shaft opening: Tecnoseal 00516H is designed for a 57.1 mm (2¼ in) shaft, while Tecnoseal 00518H is designed for a 63.5 mm (2½ in) shaft.

Hinged Construction and Mounting
The Tecnoseal hinged shaft anodes feature a rounded external body formed by two matching sections. The hinged arrangement allows the anode to be opened and positioned around the corresponding shaft diameter.
According to the manufacturer's catalogue, the design uses one securing screw only, with the bolt and nut included. This configuration provides a fastening arrangement for securing the two sections around the shaft.
The external dimensions are identical for both variants. The internal opening determines compatibility with the shaft, making accurate measurement essential before selecting a replacement.
Propeller Shaft Compatibility
The two available zinc variants are intended for the following shaft diameters:
- 57.1 mm / 2¼-inch shaft: Tecnoseal 00516H.
- 63.5 mm / 2½-inch shaft: Tecnoseal 00518H.
These dimensions refer to the actual shaft diameter rather than the overall size of the anode. Before ordering, measure the shaft and confirm that the existing installation provides sufficient clearance for the 112 mm outside diameter and 105 mm overall height.
Galvanic Corrosion Protection
Manufactured from zinc, these shaft anodes function as sacrificial corrosion protection components. When properly installed with electrical contact to the shaft, the zinc corrodes preferentially, helping reduce galvanic corrosion of electrically connected underwater metallic components.
Zinc sacrificial anodes are commonly used in saltwater environments. Material suitability should be confirmed according to the vessel's operating conditions and the existing corrosion protection system.
Inspection and Replacement
Inspect the shaft anode during routine maintenance and replace it when significantly depleted, damaged or no longer securely attached.
Before installing a replacement, clean and inspect the shaft mounting surface, verify the correct shaft diameter and check the condition of the fastening hardware. Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and ensure suitable electrical contact between the anode and the propeller shaft.
