The Tides Marine Spare Seal Carrier Kits are designed to store spare lip seals directly on the propeller shaft between the SureSeal® housing and the shaft coupling, allowing quick replacement of worn seals without uncoupling the shaft and, if required, without hauling the vessel out of the water. The carrier is a lightweight two-piece composite housing that clamps around the shaft and holds spare lip seals. Available in imperial sizes from 7/8″ to 6″ and metric sizes from 25 mm to 130 mm, the kits store one or two spare seals depending on shaft diameter.

Tides Marine Spare Seal Carrier Kits provide a convenient method for storing replacement lip seals directly on the propeller shaft. The carrier is mounted between the SureSeal® shaft seal housing and the propeller shaft coupling, allowing the vessel operator to replace worn lip seals without removing the shaft from the transmission.

In many situations, the worn lip seal can be replaced while the vessel is in the water, eliminating the need for a haul-out. The carrier housing clamps around the shaft and holds spare lip seals ready for installation.

Number of Spare Seals by Shaft Diameter

Shafts up to and including 1 3/4": one spare lip seal in a single housing
Shafts from 2" to 3": two spare lip seals, each in its own housing
Shafts 3 1/4" and larger: two spare lip seals in a single housing

Important Installation Notes

The spare seal carrier must be installed at least 1 inch from the SureSeal housing.
The carrier must not contact the SureSeal housing.
The shaft surface where the carrier is installed must be clean and free of corrosion, nicks or keyways.
The carrier should clamp securely to the shaft and rotate freely with it.

Compatibility

When ordering a spare seal carrier, first determine whether the vessel uses a SureSeal® or a StrongSeal® shaft seal system (StrongSeal was last produced in 2000). Lip seals for some shaft sizes are not interchangeable.
