The Maxwell RC12-12 is a premium stainless steel vertical automatic rope/chain windlass with drum from Maxwell’s RC12 Series, supplied under article number Vetus P104913. This model is powered by a 24 V DC electric motor rated at 1200 W and features a 90 TDC chainwheel with clockwise (CW) rotation, engineered for reliable anchoring performance on medium to large vessels.
Designed for use with 12–13 mm short link chain (DIN 766) and 20–22 mm nylon rope, the RC12-12 delivers a maximum pull of 1590 kg and a static holding capacity of 2200 kg. The Wave Design™ chainwheel ensures smooth rope-to-chain transition, reduced wear, and consistent operation under load. The integrated drum provides additional flexibility for rope handling and anchoring control.
The windlass incorporates an automatic rope/chain handling system and a double cone clutch mechanism that enables smooth free-fall anchoring with precise control. An Active Latch Ratchet System prevents backwinding during emergency manual recovery of the anchor rode. For safe operation, the windlass must be used in conjunction with a chain stopper and/or an alternative snubbing device to remove load from the windlass while the vessel is lying at anchor. These securing systems must also be used to secure the anchor in the fully raised position when the vessel is underway.
