Vetus BULLFLEX Flexible Coupling
The Vetus BULLFLEX Flexible Coupling is engineered to offer superior vibration suppression and a smooth connection between the engine and the propeller shaft. The coupling features a prestressed rubber element that effectively eliminates torsional vibrations, particularly at low engine speeds, ensuring low noise, no play, and no vibration during torque transmission. This reliable coupling protects the gearbox from axial and radial impacts, providing safe and effective power transfer under any conditions.
The BULLFLEX coupling is also designed for easy installation, thanks to its non-conical locking hub, which eliminates the need for expensive shaft taper machining or keyway cutting. Additionally, a special centering ring ensures perfect shaft alignment, even when there is a slight misalignment of up to 2°. The coupling's built-in axial stop damper further reduces axial vibration, ensuring smoother engine operation and reducing the load on engine supports.
Key Features:
- Very High Elasticity for Vibration Suppression
- Effective Axial and Radial Vibration Dampening
- Aligns Shaft Line with Up to 2° Deviation
- Centres Shaft Perfectly in Both Forward and Rear Strokes
- Non-Tapered Locking Hub for Easy Installation and Removal
- Built-in Axial Load Damper for Reduced Vibration
- Ability to Remove Centring Ring for Flexible Hinge Joint Function
Compatibility:
The BULLFLEX coupling is compatible with various gearbox models and can be used with most gearboxes manufactured by Hurth, Velvet, TD, ZF, and P.R.M. Adapter flanges for Volvo, Yanmar, Technodrive, and Kanzaki gearboxes are also available for order. This coupling is not suitable for use with V-Drives.
Installation and Maintenance:
The non-conical locking hub simplifies installation and removal, avoiding the need for specialized machining. In cases where the shaft has limited space or is supported by a single bearing, the centering ring can be removed for added flexibility, while still maintaining excellent vibration suppression.
Example Calculation:
For an 84 kW offshore engine with a maximum speed of 3,600 RPM and a gear ratio of 2.1:1:
Shaft speed = 3,600 RPM / 2.1 = 1,714 RPM
Transmitted power reduced to 100 RPM = 84 kW / 17.14 = 4.9 kW at 100 RPMBenefits of the Vetus Bullflex Flexible Coupling:
- Very high elasticity for effective vibration suppression
- Ensures optimal torque transmission with no noise or play
- Protects the gearbox from axial and radial impacts
- Allows up to 2° shaft misalignment without compromising performance
- Improves shaft alignment even at higher engine RPMs
- Simple installation with no need for costly machining or keyways
- Built-in axial damper for reduced vibration and smoother engine operation
