Yacht Devices YDBM-01 Battery Monitor
The Yacht Devices YDBM-01 Battery Monitor is an advanced tool for monitoring the health and charge state of your marine battery. This device reports measured voltage and current, calculated health, and user-programmed static data such as nominal capacity and chemistry directly to the NMEA 2000 network. It can trigger alerts or turn on a genset when the battery's state becomes critical.
Versatile Monitoring Capabilities
Designed primarily for marine batteries, the YDBM-01 Battery Monitor is capable of monitoring any single DC source or load, including alternators, wind generators, windlasses, and refrigerators. To function correctly, the device requires an external shunt, which is not included but is widely available in the range of 5A to 1200A. Refer to Section V "Choosing a Shunt" in the User Manual for detailed guidance.
Precision and Configuration
The YDBM-01 can utilize data from an NMEA 2000 thermometer connected to the battery to enhance the accuracy of charge state and health detection. It also reports temperature alongside voltage and current data. The device features a MicroSD card slot, allowing for easy configuration and firmware updates using a standard FAT-formatted card. At a minimum, users must specify the drop voltage and maximum current for the connected shunt. Additional parameters like nominal capacity, voltage, and chemistry can also be configured.
Seamless Integration
This battery monitor can be integrated with NMEA 2000 digital switching systems and trigger alarms using standard NMEA 2000 PGNs 127501/127502. Users can configure it to raise sound or voice alerts for low battery charge or to manage equipment operation, such as starting a genset to recharge the battery. It ensures seamless operation within an NMEA 2000 network and is compatible with various branded networks like Raymarine SeaTalk NG, Simrad SimNet, and Furuno CAN, differing only by connector type.
Technical Specifications
- External shunt rated current: 5..2500 A
- External shunt's nominal voltage drop (recommended): 75 mV
- Current measurement accuracy: ±0.5 %
- Maximum allowed DC voltage on inputs: 40 V
- Voltage measurement accuracy: 0.1 V
- Breakdown voltage between NMEA 2000 network interface and inputs: 2500 VRMS
Note: These specifications do not account for shunt accuracy, which is typically ±0.25% or ±0.5%, and ±20..25 ppm/°C for temperature drift.
Compatibility and Connectivity
The YDBM-01 Battery Monitor is certified by the National Marine Electronics Association and supports a wide range of equipment using the NMEA 2000 protocol. It comes with SeaTalk NG or NMEA 2000 Micro Male (N2K) connectors, allowing for easy integration with networks from different manufacturers without needing adapters.
