Vetus Rudder Blade Anodes Ø80 mm are designed to provide exceptional protection for your vessel, preventing corrosion of vital metal parts submerged in water. Manufactured by Vetus, a trusted name in marine equipment, these anodes are highly effective for both freshwater and saltwater applications, ensuring the longevity and safety of your boat.
Cathodic protection using anodes is an absolute necessity to safeguard all metal parts submerged underwater. As a result, anodes are essential not only for steel vessels but also for wooden, fiberglass, and aluminum vessels. Vetus anodes are crafted to meet the highest industry standards, ensuring long-term performance.
Vetus zinc anodes are manufactured according to US military technical requirements (A-18001 K). Anodes that do not meet these standards may have little or no effect. Vetus aluminum anodes are made from a durable aluminum-indium-zinc alloy (Mil-A-24779 SH), providing reliable protection in fresh and brackish water.
Key Specifications:
- Shape: Circular
- Size: Ø80 mm
- Zinc Anode Weight: 1.0 kg
- Aluminum Anode Weight: 0.45 kg
All anodes come with pins that can be welded to steel hulls or special bolts for fiberglass and wooden vessels. These pins and bolts must be ordered separately. It's essential to specify the material of your vessel's hull when placing your order.
For fiberglass hulls, bolts must be connected by wire to ensure direct contact with metal parts. Anodes protect only the metal parts of fiberglass and wooden boats, and all Vetus anodes feature a protective paint layer on the mounting side to prevent damage to the hull's paint.
Aluminum anodes are recommended for freshwater vessels as they have a lower electrochemical potential compared to zinc. This is especially crucial in freshwater, which has higher electrical resistance. For saltwater and brackish water environments, zinc anodes are preferred. While aluminum anodes perform well in saltwater, they corrode faster. Magnesium anodes are not recommended due to their lower electrochemical potential, which can cause damage to the hull’s coating.
