The Vetus ZWBH40 Flexible Inner Bearing is a precision-engineered shaft seal designed for 40 mm propeller shafts and 60–61 mm stern tubes. Developed for water-lubricated stern gear systems, this advanced monoblock design features a triple lip sealing system that provides exceptional watertight integrity, long service life, and smooth, vibration-free operation.

Constructed from 65–70 Shore NBR rubber, the ZWBH40 combines flexibility, oil and grease resistance, and the ability to absorb shocks and vibrations. Its integrated Ø10 mm brass hose pillar ensures a steady flow of water for lubrication and cooling, maintaining the optimal performance of both the shaft and seal under continuous use. This system prevents overheating and reduces wear, ensuring reliable sealing in all marine conditions.

To maintain efficient lubrication, a minimum of 20 liters of water per hour must be supplied, preferably from the engine’s cooling circuit or a dedicated hull inlet. For vessels operating above 12 knots, an external water feed is recommended. On slower vessels, the hose can be routed above the waterline to act as a vent. The seal is designed to withstand temperatures between -15°C and +85°C, guaranteeing consistent performance across a wide range of marine environments. Vetus advises annual lubrication with silicone grease to maintain long-term flexibility and sealing efficiency.

The ZWBH40 is compatible with Vetus bronze, GRP, and steel stern tubes and comes complete with two stainless steel hose clamps and silicone grease for quick, secure installation and ongoing maintenance.
