Yacht Devices YDRA-01 Rudder Adapter
The Yacht Devices YDRA-01 Rudder Angle Adapter connects existing resistive type rudder angle sensors to NMEA 2000 networks, supplying autopilots, chart plotters, and other devices with accurate rudder angle data.
Compatibility and Installation
The device can be used with rudder angle sensors with a maximum resistance of less than 400 Ohm, including European (10 to 180 Ohm range) and American (240 to 33 Ohm range) standard sensors, as well as 0-5V voltage output sensors. It can be installed as a standalone measuring device, work alongside a digital gauge, or in parallel with an existing analog gauge (supports both 2-coil and 1-coil gauges). It is also compatible with combined gauges where values are selected using a button.
Precision Calibration
The YDRA-01 allows for calibration with up to 7 calibration points to compensate for the non-linearity of the sensor's resistance value versus rudder angle. Parasitic resistance of the sensor wires can also be compensated in the device settings, ensuring precise readings.
Configuration and Updates
Equipped with a Micro SD card slot, the adapter allows for easy configuration, firmware updates, diagnostics, and data logging. No special software is required; you only need a laptop or smartphone with a MicroSD card reader and a simple text editor.
Integration with Other Products
The YDRA-01 can integrate with other Yacht Devices products for enhanced functionality:
- Use with our Wi-Fi Gateway to monitor rudder angle via a browser or marine apps (supports two rudders).
- Record rudder angle data to a MicroSD card or use a Voyage Recorder to store data along with other vessel data.
- Configure the adapter with special "Installation Description" strings using MFDs that allow entering text to device properties or via our free CAN Log Viewer software.
Special Features
- Can function as a trim tabs sensor adapter (two devices required when tabs are not synchronized).
- Allows displaying non-standard data types on Garmin MFDs (e.g., rotary mast angle).
Technical Specifications
- Compatible with European and American standard sensors
- Maximum resistance for nonstandard sensors: less than 400 Ohm
- Supports 0-5V voltage output sensors
- Calibration with up to 7 points
- MicroSD card slot for configuration and data logging
- Powered from the NMEA 2000 network
- High voltage galvanic isolation between NMEA 2000 and sensor inputs
Network Compatibility
The adapter is certified by the National Marine Electronics Association and compatible with virtually all equipment supporting NMEA 2000. It comes with a connector compatible with SeaTalk NG or NMEA 2000 Micro Male, and for other networks, an adaptor cable may be required.
