Aluminium anodes are recommended for vessels which mostly cruise on inland (fresh) waters. For vessels navigating inland waters, aluminium anodes are preferred due to their higher potential difference with other metals compared to zinc, offering effective corrosion protection.

This is crucial as freshwater environments pose a higher electrical resistance than saltwater. However, for sailing on saltwater or brackish water, zinc anodes are advised, although aluminium anodes still exhibit functionality albeit at a quicker rate of sacrifice. Additionally, there is a choice between rectangular or tear-drop shapes to seamlessly complement the contours of the boat.
