Vetus RL31/2PH Phenolic Cutlass Bearing for 3½'' Shaft, 4½'' OD, 14'' Length
The Vetus RL31/2PH is a water-lubricated cutlass bearing featuring a polyurethane rubber lining and a non-metallic phenolic resin outer shell. All specifications, including shaft diameter, shell outside diameter, and bearing length, are provided in inches for full compatibility with imperial-dimension stern tubes. The internal rubber surface is grooved longitudinally to promote continuous water flow, enabling effective cooling and lubrication during shaft rotation.
Key Features
- Polyurethane rubber lining with high wear resistance
- Lightweight phenolic resin outer casing resistant to corrosion
- Longitudinal internal grooves for optimal water lubrication
- Imperial specifications: 3½'' shaft diameter, 4½'' shell OD, 14'' length
- Suitable for both motorboats and sailing yachts
- Ideal for aluminum stern tubes and installations sensitive to galvanic corrosion
Technical Specifications
Manufacturer Vetus Shaft Diameter 3 1/2" (88.90 mm) Shell Outside Diameter 4 1/2" Length 14" Outer Shell Material Phenolic resin Lining Material Polyurethane rubber Lubrication Water-lubricated
Application Details
- Ensures proper support and alignment of the marine propeller shaft
- Reduces rotational friction and absorbs vibration
- Designed for non-metallic installations where corrosion must be minimized
- Suitable for boats using aluminum stern tubes or where galvanic contact must be avoided
Phenolic vs. Brass Bearings
Phenolic bearings are recommended for aluminum stern tubes or situations requiring the prevention of metal-to-metal contact to avoid galvanic corrosion. Brass bearings are standard in many installations due to their strength and durability, but phenolic models offer advantages in corrosion-sensitive or fully non-metallic configurations.
Vetus rubber bearings for larger shaft diameters are available on special order.
