Fire Fighting Design:
The simultaneous use of a gasoline engine and an electric fore or aft PU can be very dangerous due to the possibility of gasoline vapor ignition caused by sparks from the electric motor. In order to make such a combination of equipment safe, Vetus has developed a special device that protects electrical PUs to the extent that they meet the requirements of the ISO 8846 Marine Standard ("fire fighting version"). This protective device consists of a water-tight (IP65) casing for an electric motor and relay, all the necessary seals, electrical connectors and fasteners. It also includes an automatic fuse arranged in such a way that when replacing it, the protective casing does not need to be removed. Such special fire fighting versions are available for nose tilting units with a stop of 55, 75, 95 and 125 kgf for both 12 v and 24 v. They can also be used as feed PUs with appropriate mounting kits.
