When it comes to propellers, precision and balance are paramount. Vetus employs a specialized computer program to calculate the optimal propeller for your vessel based on its characteristics. The propeller's diameter, pitch, number and shape of blades, disc ratio, and other parameters are carefully considered, as well as the material and precision of its manufacture.
- Balance: Propellers often rotate at high speeds, sometimes up to 2,000 rpm (over 30 revolutions per second!), requiring exceptional balance.
- Precision Dimensions: Consistent blade pitch and spacing are crucial for efficiency and vibration prevention, necessitating precise manufacturing.
- Material: Vetus propellers are typically crafted from manganese bronze—a highly resilient yet elastic material. This allows Vetus propellers to often be repaired if damaged. Alternatively, stronger bronze alloys with added aluminum may be used for manufacturing.
- Blade Area: Proper propeller selection begins with determining the number of blades and the required disc ratio (Fa/F), which depends on the vessel's hull shape, speed, and other factors.
- Wide Range of Options: Vetus manufactures and stocks a broad range of 3-blade propellers like the P3B and P3C, 4-blade propellers such as the P4E and P4G, as well as 5-blade propellers like the P5G. Custom propellers can also be calculated and supplied by Vetus upon special request.
