The Victron Energy Galvanic Isolator VDI-16/32/64 is designed to protect your boat from electrolytic corrosion caused by constant low-voltage currents that enter the boat through the grounding wire. These currents can lead to corrosion of underwater boat metals, including the hull, propeller, and shaft.

The Galvanic Isolator features an internal composition consisting of two diodes connected in opposite parallel. When connected, these diodes allow current to pass in both directions, but only beyond a certain threshold. The voltage required for diode conduction is approximately 1.4 V DC.
This isolator is typically installed directly behind the 230V connection in your boat. The direct voltage provided by the Galvanic Isolator exceeds the potential difference between metals, preventing voltage-induced conductivity. However, if an erroneous (high) voltage is present in the AC network, the diodes will allow current to pass, and the residual current device will open the circuit for safety.
