A Ronstan ratchet block is a specialized sailing block featuring a built-in ratchet mechanism. This mechanism allows the block to engage and hold the line in one direction while allowing it to run freely in the other direction. It is commonly used in high-load applications where it's essential to maintain control over the line tension. The ratchet block is often employed in mainsheet systems, spinnaker controls, and other critical rigging setups on yachts and boats. Its ability to provide controlled line handling under varying conditions makes it a valuable component for sailors seeking enhanced performance and safety on the water.
