The PSS 02-95M-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is an innovative mechanical face seal designed for reliability and performance in maritime applications. Its unique construction ensures optimal sealing and minimizes maintenance needs.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates using a mechanical face seal principle. It features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is attached to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The rotor, made of stainless steel, is fitted onto the shaft, ensuring compression of the bellows before it is fastened to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load guarantees consistent contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, effectively allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is specifically over-bored to match the shaft diameter, which enables it to "float" around the shaft, adeptly addressing potential misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed within the collar's bore; these O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
