PSS 02-95M-634 - Dripless Shaft Seal 95 mm, 6 3/4" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-95M-634 is an innovative solution designed to provide a reliable sealing mechanism for stern tubes. Engineered with precision, this dripless shaft seal effectively maintains the integrity of your vessel by utilizing advanced mechanical design features.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal. The sealing action is accomplished between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely fastened to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor interfaces with the shaft ahead of the carbon flange and applies compression to the bellows prior to being locked in place with set screws. This compression ensures a continuous connection between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, enabling the PSS seal to adapt seamlessly to variable movements caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is uniquely designed to float around the shaft, accommodating misalignments and vibrations effectively. Two O-rings, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, guarantee a secure seal against leaks without experiencing wear during operation. Temperature limits for the PSS shaft seal range from 5°F to 225°F (-15°C to 107°C) and can withstand pressure up to 15 PSI (1 BAR). It is capable of operating at shaft speeds of up to 10,000 RPM. The carbon graphite is expertly lapped to a tolerance of 0.000044 inches (4 HLB), while the stainless-steel components are finished to a 9-12 Ra surface roughness. The bellows are constructed from molded nitrile and PVC, ensuring durability and performance in marine environments.
Key specifications include a shaft diameter of 95 mm and compatibility with stern tube diameters ranging from 6 3/4 inches to 6 7/8 inches.
