The PSS 02-90M-700 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide reliable sealing for marine applications. It features a mechanical face seal that utilizes the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange to create an effective sealing surface. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, while the bellows fits over the stern tube, ensuring a tight and leak-proof seal.

To maintain optimal performance, the stainless-steel rotor compresses the bellows, ensuring consistent contact between its flat surface and the carbon flange. This design allows the PSS to adapt to any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is intentionally over-bored to match the shaft diameter, providing the ability to "float" and effectively compensate for misalignment or vibrations.

For added reliability, the stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two durable O-rings that rotate with the rotor, thus avoiding wear during operation. The PSS 02-90M-700 offers impressive specifications including temperature limits from 5°F to 225°F (-15°C to 107°C), pressure limits of 15 PSI (1 BAR), and shaft RPM limits of up to 10,000 RPM. Notably, the carbon graphite's lapped tolerance is set to 4 HLB (0.000044"), while the stainless-steel and Nitronic 50 facing boasts a finish of 9-12 Ra. Finally, the bellows is crafted from molded Nitrile-PVC, ensuring durability and performance under a variety of conditions.
