The PSS 02-90M-614 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide reliable sealing for a variety of marine applications. Utilizing advanced mechanical face seal technology, it ensures optimal performance even under challenging conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows, which fits over the stern tube and is also held in place with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, creating a precise fit.

This design includes pre-compression of the bellows by the rotor, which maintains constant contact between the rotor and carbon flange, effectively accommodating the variable forward and aft movements caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" around the shaft, thereby compensating for misalignment and vibration.

To ensure a proper seal, the stainless-steel rotor includes two O-rings which are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and the rotor, preventing wear during operation.
