The PSS 02-90M-534 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for optimal sealing performance and reliability in stern tube applications. Designed to accommodate a 90 mm shaft diameter and suitable for stern tube diameters ranging from 5-3/4 inches to 5-7/8 inches, this seal excels in marine environments.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal, formed between the smooth surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows' front side with hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube and clamped in place. Located on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, the stainless-steel rotor applies compression to the bellows, ensuring consistent contact between its flat face and the carbon counterpart. This pre-load not only maintains a watertight seal but also accommodates any forward and backward movement generated by propeller thrust.

Further enhancing performance, the carbon flange is designed to over-bore the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and effectively adjust to misalignments and vibrations. The rotor's connection to the shaft is fortified with set screws, while two O-rings seated within the collar ensure a superior seal without experiencing wear during operation. This innovative design maximizes durability and functionality in challenging marine conditions.
