The PSS 02-90M-500 is a highly efficient dripless shaft seal designed for use with a 90 mm stern tube. This advanced mechanical face seal features a unique sealing mechanism formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of a robust bellows via hose clamps, enabling a tight seal. The rear end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube and is also fastened with hose clamps to ensure stability.

The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft just in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows prior to being affixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing the seal to accommodate the forward and backward movement caused by propeller thrust. The carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” and effectively address any misalignment and vibration issues. Additionally, the rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring they do not wear out during operation.
