The PSS 02-90M-412 is designed to provide a reliable, dripless sealing solution for stern tubes. This advanced shaft seal utilizes a mechanical face seal system, wherein a smooth interaction between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange creates an effective sealing surface. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the bellows itself is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps.

The stainless-steel rotor is installed on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange. By compressing the bellows, the rotor ensures a tight fit that maintains constant contact between its flat face and the carbon flange. This pre-load capability allows the seal to adapt to changes in the shaft's position due to propeller thrust, ensuring durability and efficiency. The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft with an over-bored fit, effectively mitigating misalignments and vibration concerns.

Sealing integrity is further enhanced by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore, sealing the rotor to the shaft. These O-rings rotate with the rotor and shaft assembly, keeping wear to a minimum throughout operation.
