The PSS 02-85M-634 Dripless Shaft Seal is an advanced mechanical face seal designed for reliable performance in marine applications. It utilizes the interaction between a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange to create an effective sealing surface.

Featuring a stationary carbon flange secured to the front end of a flexible bellows with hose clamps, the rear end of the bellows is designed to fit snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor attaches to the shaft before the carbon flange, providing a compression or pre-load that ensures a constant connection between the two surfaces. This mechanism allows for adaptable movement from propeller thrust while maintaining an effective seal.

The carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, accommodating misalignments and vibrations, which enhances the seal's performance. To ensure durability, the collar's bore integrates two O-rings that rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
