The PSS 02-85M-612 Dripless Shaft Seal is expertly designed to provide reliable sealing for marine applications. With a robust mechanical face seal, it ensures optimal performance under varying conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal that features a unique design. The sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is installed on the shaft just in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows prior to being fastened to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression guarantees continuous contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement created by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is engineered to be over-bored to the shaft's diameter, allowing it to float around the shaft and compensate for common misalignment and vibration challenges. The rotor’s connection to the shaft is reinforced by two O-rings located in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear throughout operation.
