The PSS 02-85M-534 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide exceptional reliability and performance in marine environments. It features advanced engineering that minimizes wear and tear while ensuring optimal sealing integrity.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal, where the sealing action occurs between a flat stainless-steel rotating rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear end fits snugly over the stern tube, also held in place by hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor, mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, exerts pressure on the bellows to achieve pre-load, ensuring consistent contact between the rotor and flange surfaces. This unique design accommodates fluctuations in movement caused by propeller thrust, maintaining performance even under variable conditions. Additionally, the carbon flange is uniquely over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float," which helps to mitigate misalignment and vibration issues, further enhancing longevity. Sealing between the stainless-steel rotor and the shaft is secured by two O-rings that are recessed within the collar's bore. These O-rings move with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
