The PSS 02-85M-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in a marine environment. This advanced mechanical face seal ensures a leak-free seal, making it essential for stern tube applications.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates through a unique mechanical face sealing mechanism. The sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear end of the bellows is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, providing a reliable and effective sealing action.

To ensure optimal performance, the rotor compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression maintains constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and the carbon flange, which allows the seal to effectively accommodate any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. The specially designed carbon flange is bored to match the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and adapt to typical misalignment and vibration issues.

For enhanced durability, the stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with both the shaft and rotor, ensuring they remain free from wear during operation.
