The PSS 02-85M-412 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for superior performance in marine applications, ensuring a reliable seal for your stern tube. This innovative design minimizes maintenance while maximizing efficiency.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal functions as a mechanical face seal. It achieves sealing through the contact between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear end fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. This stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the rotor and the flange, allowing the seal to accommodate any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft, compensating for misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, rotating with the shaft to prevent wear during operation.
