The PSS 02-80M-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. Its innovative mechanical face seal utilizes a combination of high-quality materials to ensure durability and efficiency.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely mounted to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is attached to the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load accommodates the variable movement caused by propeller thrust. Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to “float” around the shaft, addressing misalignment and vibration concerns. Sealing is enhanced through two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring they remain free from wear during operation.
