The PSS 02-80M-434 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for high performance and reliability in marine applications. This innovative sealing system ensures a water-tight fit while accommodating for the dynamic movements of the propeller shaft.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal. It features a unique sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows, which is fastened to the stern tube with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft just ahead of the carbon flange, where it compresses the bellows to maintain consistent contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load allows the PSS to effectively manage the varying fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibrations. The sealing mechanism is enhanced by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore, rotating with the shaft and rotor without experiencing wear.
