The PSS 02-80M-400 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal combines advanced materials and design to ensure a leak-free operation, effectively accommodating the challenges posed by propeller thrust and shaft misalignment.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal features a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the bellows itself is fitted over the stern tube and also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows prior to being secured to the shaft with set screws. This pre-loading maintains consistent contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movement from the propeller thrust. Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft and effectively compensate for misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
