The PSS 02-70M-534 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide effective sealing for marine applications. It utilizes advanced engineering to ensure reliability and durability in harsh environments.
The Type A PSS Shaft Seal functions as a mechanical face seal, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is firmly attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear end of the bellows secures over the stern tube. The stainless-steel rotor attaches to the shaft, compressing the bellows to maintain constant contact between the rotor and flange. This pre-load is crucial as it accommodates the fore and aft movements induced by propeller thrust.
Additionally, the carbon flange is designed to be over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and adjust to misalignments and vibrations effectively. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings, which rotate with the assembly and are protected from wear during operation.
