The PSS 02-70M-514 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable and efficient marine performance. This advanced mechanical face seal ensures a watertight connection, making it ideal for stern tube applications.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange, securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, sits at the front, while the bellows fits over the stern tube at the back end, also secured with hose clamps. The rotor compresses the bellows before being fastened to the shaft using set screws, creating a pre-load that maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows the PSS to accommodate any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is machined to the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" and effectively manage misalignment and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings positioned within the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
