The PSS 02-70M-512 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. This advanced mechanical face seal ensures a secure and leak-free operation, adapting effortlessly to the dynamic movements caused by propeller thrust.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal design, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being locked in place with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange, allowing for compensation of fore and aft movements.

Moreover, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" around the shaft and address misalignment and vibration issues. Sealing is achieved via two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
