The PSS 02-70M-400 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered to provide reliable protection against water ingress in marine applications. This innovative mechanical face seal features a robust design that ensures optimal performance in challenging conditions.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal where the sealing interface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange. This rotor compresses the bellows prior to being fastened to the shaft with set screws, creating a pre-load that ensures constant contact between the rotor and flange. This design allows the PSS Shaft Seal to adapt to fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

The carbon flange is precisely over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to "float" and effectively manage misalignment and vibration issues. Furthermore, the rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, preventing wear during operation.
