The PSS 02-65M-312 Dripless Shaft Seal is engineered for reliable performance in marine applications. Designed to ensure a leak-free operation, this mechanical face seal features a sophisticated design that accommodates the dynamic movements of the stern tube.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits tightly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange and compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load ensures constant contact between the rotor and carbon flange, effectively compensating for the variable fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to "float" around the shaft, allowing it to adjust for misalignments and vibration. The rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that rotate along with the shaft and do not wear during operation, ensuring longevity and reliability.
