The PSS 02-60M-312 Dripless Shaft Seal is an advanced solution designed for marine applications, ensuring a reliable and leak-free operation. This mechanical face seal features a unique design that allows for effective compensation of shaft movement and misalignment.

Type A PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face seal principle, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, creating a pre-load that maintains constant contact between the two surfaces. This design allows the PSS seal to adapt to variable movements caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” and effectively address misalignment and vibration issues. The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, ensuring that they rotate with the shaft and do not wear out during operation.
