PSS 02-600-858 - Dripless Shaft Seal 6", 8 5/8" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-600-858 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable and efficient performance in marine applications. Its innovative design ensures a secure seal while accommodating movement caused by propeller thrust.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face seal system. The sealing mechanism is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is mounted on the front of the bellows using hose clamps, while the rear of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, secured by additional clamps. The rotor, made of stainless steel, is positioned on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft using set screws, creating a pre-load that maintains consistent contact between the rotor and carbon flange surfaces. This design allows the PSS Shaft Seal to adapt to the variable movements caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is over-bored to match the shaft diameter, enabling it to “float” around the shaft and effectively compensate for misalignments and vibrations. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
