The PSS 02-600-714 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This advanced sealing solution ensures a tight seal while allowing for necessary movement due to propeller thrust, making it ideal for stern tube installations.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal operates as a mechanical face seal. It features a sealing surface formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The rotor is mounted on the shaft ahead of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being fixed in place with set screws. This pre-loading maintains constant contact between the rotor and flange, effectively compensating for any forward or backward movement caused by propeller thrust.

Additionally, the carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter, allowing it to “float” and adapt to most alignment and vibration issues. Sealing is enhanced by two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore, which rotate with the shaft and rotor, minimizing wear during operation.
