PSS 02-600-712 - Dripless Shaft Seal 6", 7 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-600-712 Dripless Shaft Seal is a high-performance solution designed to provide reliable sealing for stern tubes in marine applications. This advanced mechanical face seal ensures optimal performance and durability under varying conditions.
The Type B PSS Shaft Seal employs a mechanical face sealing mechanism, where the sealing surface forms between the flat faces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows' front side using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits snugly over the stern tube, also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange, and it compresses the bellows before being fixed to the shaft with set screws. This pre-load maintains constant contact between the rotor and carbon flange, allowing the seal to adapt to any fore-and-aft movement caused by propeller thrust.
The carbon flange is designed with an oversized bore that allows it to “float” around the shaft, effectively compensating for misalignments and vibrations. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed in the collar's bore, ensuring that these O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, thus minimizing wear during operation.
