The PSS 02-55M-400 Dripless Shaft Seal is a high-performance mechanical face seal designed for marine applications. This innovative seal features a robust construction that ensures reliability and durability in demanding environments.

The Type A PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is formed between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is securely attached to the bellows with hose clamps, while the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange, compressing the bellows before being fastened to the shaft with set screws. This pre-compression maintains consistent contact between the rotor and flange, effectively compensating for any fore and aft movement caused by propeller thrust.

Furthermore, the carbon flange is designed to over-bore the shaft diameter, allowing it to "float" around the shaft and mitigate most misalignment and vibration issues. The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft with two O-rings that are recessed into the collar’s bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
