The PSS 02-514-612 Dripless Shaft Seal ensures a reliable seal between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange, designed to handle the dynamic conditions of marine environments. The seal features a compression mechanism to maintain contact despite propeller thrust, compensates for shaft misalignment and vibration, and is sealed with O-rings that rotate with the shaft, minimizing wear. It operates within a temperature range of -13°F to 425°F, a pressure limit of 50 PSI, and supports shaft RPM up to 7,000.

PSS 02-514-612 - Dripless Shaft Seal 5 1/4", 6 1/2" Stern Tube
The PSS 02-514-612 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed to provide a reliable and effective sealing solution for stern tubes. This mechanical face seal is engineered to maintain a consistent seal between the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange, ensuring optimal performance in various marine applications.
- Type: B PSS Shaft Seal
- Sealing Mechanism: The seal is formed between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The carbon flange is attached to the front of the bellows with hose clamps, and the bellows is secured over the stern tube with additional hose clamps.
- Assembly: The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws. This compression ensures constant contact between the rotor and the carbon flange, accommodating any movement due to propeller thrust.
- Misalignment Compensation: The carbon flange is over-bored to fit the shaft diameter, allowing it to float and compensate for misalignment and vibration.
- Sealing Integrity: The rotor is sealed to the shaft using two O-rings recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate with the shaft and do not experience wear during operation.
