The PSS 02-512-734 Dripless Shaft Seal is designed for reliable performance in marine applications. This innovative seal provides a robust solution to prevent leakage while accommodating the dynamic movements of the propeller.

The Type B PSS Shaft Seal utilizes a mechanical face seal mechanism, where the sealing surface is established between the flat surfaces of a rotating stainless-steel rotor and a stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is securely attached to the front side of the bellows using hose clamps, while the back end of the bellows fits over the stern tube and is also secured with hose clamps. The stainless-steel rotor is mounted on the shaft, positioned in front of the carbon flange. It compresses the bellows before being secured to the shaft with set screws, ensuring a constant contact between the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange. This design allows the seal to adapt to any fore and aft movements caused by propeller thrust.

Moreover, the carbon flange is designed to float around the shaft due to its over-bored construction, effectively compensating for misalignments and vibrations. The sealing of the stainless-steel rotor to the shaft is achieved through two O-rings that are recessed into the collar's bore. These O-rings rotate along with the shaft and the rotor, ensuring minimal wear during operation.
